| Minerals | A naturally occurring substance that is solid, inorganic, chemical composition an atomic structure |
| Rocks | A natural occurring solid aggregated of minerals or mineraloids |
| Hardness | Toughness on Mohs scale |
| Cleavage | How the mineral breaks |
| Luster | Shininess or dullness of a mineral |
| Streak | The color a mineral leaves behind when scratched |
| Crystal form | The shape of crystals |
| Silicate minerals | Largest and most important rock forming group. Containing silicon and oxygen |
| Nonsilicate minerals | Minerals not containing silicon |
| Rock cycle | The life of rocks and their formation |
| Intrusive (igneous) | Minerals made inside the earth cooling slowly |
| Extrusive (igneous) | Minerals made outside the earth cooling fast |
| Foliated (metamorphic) | Layers in rocks and minerals |
| Non foliated (metamorphic) | No layers in rocks and minerals |
| Chemical (sedimentary) | Mineral constituents in solution become supersaturated and inorganically precipitated |
| Organic (sedimentary) | Minerals being made of a once living thing |
| Clastic (sedimentary) | Composted of fragments |
