| Thermal Energy | the kinetic energy of a substance's atoms |
| Heat | the energy transferred between objects that are at different temperatures. |
| Chemical Energy | the energy that is stored in chemical bonds. |
| Electromagnetic Energy | energy resulting from the motion of the charged particles within atoms. |
| Sound Energy | energy given by a vibrating object. |
| Nuclear Energy | the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom as a result of strong nuclear forces. |
| Nuclear Fission | the splitting of the nucleus of a large atom to two or more fragments; releases additional neutrons and energy. |
| Nuclear Fusion | the combination of the nuclei of small atoms to form a larger nucleus; releases energy. |
