Biology Cell Review

Swag all day long

TermDefinition
Cell Theory a.) All living things are made of cells b.) Cells are the basic units of structure and function of all living things c.) New cells are produced from existing cells
What invention lead to the discovery of cells? The Invention of the Microscope
Define Phospholipid Bilayer The doubled layered sheet structure of a cell me rane that is made up of phospholipids
List 5 Organelles Mitochondria, Golgi body, Ribosomes, Lysosomes, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Nucleus, Nucleolus, Vacuole, Chloroplasts, Cell Membrane, and Cell wall
Phospholipid Class of lipids that are major componets of all cell membranes
Phospholipid Bilayer The doubled layered sheet structure of a cell membrane that is made up of phospholipids
Fluid Mosaic Model Proteins embedded in the membrane tend to move around or float
Selectively Premeable Some substances are allowed to pass when others are not
Passive Transport The movement of materials across the cell membrane without the use of energy
Simple Diffusion The process by which molecules of a substance move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentrations
Facilitated Diffusion A process in which molecules pass trough special proteins channels because they cannot directly diffuse across a membrane
Osmosis A process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass through a semipermeabl membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one, thus equalizing the concentration on each side of the membrane
Aquaporin A water channel protein that is located in a cell membrane that allows water to pass right thorugh them
Isotonic Concentration of solutes are the same inside and outside of the cell
Hypotonic The outside of the cell has a higher solute concnetration than inside the cell
Hypertonic the outside of the cell has a lower solute concentration than the inside the cell

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
