| Climate | The average conditions of temperature and precipitation in an area. |
| Temperate Zones | Climate zones lying between 23.5 degrees and 66.5 degrees north and south latitude. |
| Rain forests | Forests in which heavy rain falls all year. |
| Savannas | Tropical grasslands found in the tropical wet-and-dry region. |
| Deserts | Regions that receive less than 25 cm of rain annually. |
| Temperate Marine | Climates found along the coasts of continents that have mild winters. |
| Tundra | A polar climate with short, cool summers and bitterly cold winters. |
| Highlands | A cool climate found at the top of mountains and surrounded by other climate regions. |
| Leeward | The side of a mountain range in the rain shadow. |
| Greenhouse effect | The trapping of heat from the sun by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. |
| Ice ages | Cold periods in which large parts of Earth's surface were covered with sheets of ice. |
| Global warming | The gradual increase in the temperature of the atmosphere. |
