Term | Definition |
---|---|
Circuit | Closed conducting loop in which electric current can flow continually. |
Conductor | Material in which electrons can move easily; material that transfers heat easily. |
Electric Current | The flow of electric charge, measured in amperes. |
Electric Discharge | Rapid movement of execs charge from one place to another. |
Electric Field | Surrounds every electric charge and exerts forces on other electric charges. |
Electric Force | Attractive or repulsive force exerted by all charged objects on each other. |
Electric Power | Rate at which electrical energy is converted into other forms of energy, measured in watts (W) or kilowatts (KW). |
Insulator | Material in which electrons cannot move easily. |
Ion | Atom that is positively or negatively charged because it has gained or lost one or more electrons. |
Ohm's Law | States that the current in a circuit equals the voltage divided by the resistance in the circuit. |
Parallel Circuit | Circuit that has more than on path for electric current to flow. |
Resistance | A measure of how difficult it is for electrons to flow in a material;unit is the ohm. |
Series Circuit | Circuit that has only one path for electric current to flow. |
Static Change | Imbalance of electric charge on an object. |
Transformer | Device used to increase or decrease the voltage of an alternating current. |
Voltage | A measure of the amount of electrical potential energy an electron flowing in a circuit can gain; measured in volts (V). |
