Weather Week 9

TermDefinition
Flood A situation in which water has flowed over the edges of a river to overflow.
Hurricane A storm with strong winds and rain that forms over tropical (WARM ocean) waters.
Blizzard Dangerous winter storms that are a  combination of blowing snow and wind resulting in very low visibilities.
Thunderstorm A weather system that produces heavy precipitation, winds, lightning, and thunder.
Hail Small, icy balls that fall from the sky.
Rain Liquid water that falls from the sky.
Sleet Frozen rain or precipitation in the form of ice pellets.
Freezing Rain Rain that falls as a liquid but freezes into glaze upon contact with the ground.
Tornado A funnel-shaped cloud or column of air that rotates at high speeds and extends downward from a cloud to the ground.
Snow Snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that falls from clouds.
