Biosphere All of Earth's organisms and the environment in which they live.
Geosphere The part of Earth from its surface to its center
Hydrosphere All the water in Earth's oceans, lakes, seas, rivers, and glaciers plus all the water in the atmosphere
Dependent Variable factor in a experiment that can change if the independent variable is changed
Independent Variable factor that is manipulated by the experimenter in experiment.
Hypothesis All the water in Earth's oceans, lakes, seas, rivers, and glaciers plus all the water in the atmosphere
Scientific Law a principle that describes the behavior of a natural phenomenon
Scientific Theory an explanation based on many observations during repeated experiments; can be used to make a testable prediction, and is the simplest explanation; can be changed or modified with the discovery of new data
Cleavage It's how slick it is to like a rock cut in half
Fracture how the rock breaks and if it's break's
Hardness how hard the rock
Luster the reaction of a rock
Streak color of mineral when rock is broken down
Fractional Crystallization How the rock forms and what it turns out looking like
Partial Melting melting but not all the way n
Pegmatite veins that deposits extremely large grain and makes rocks bigger
You will be given a scenario of an experiment that you will read and identify the IV, DV, Constants, Hypothesis, Control. make the variables dependent and independent
Compare and contrast mass and weight. mass is how much space it takes up, weight is how much force it has on it.
Explain each part of the highlighted parts of a mineral. “Mineral- a naturally occurring, inorganic solid with a specific chemical composition and a definite crystalline structure” minerals make rocks depending into what type of rock they'll make
Explain what physical properties could be used to tell the difference between Pyrite (Fool’s Gold) and Gold. they test the hardness by either scratching it with their nails or by weighing it
