lab bio organelles

deals with organelles and thier placement, structure, and functions

QuestionAnswer
Before we start, you should know that... "s" stands for structure and "f" stands for function
cromatin thread-like material inside nucleolus
nucleolus s-no structure reallyf- intense activity, transferral of info
cytoplasm s- watery jello like substancef- keeps all oraganelles in place
nucleus s-surrounded by a double membrane ands made of 2 phospholipid bilayersf- control center of the cell. kinda like a main office or pricipal's office
centrioles s- microtubules arranfes in a triplet and zero arrangement(similar to a basal body)f- function unknow; its been suggested that is has something to do w/ cell division
mitochondria s- has: inner & outer membrane, matrix, amd cristae(sp incorrect?)f- cellular respiration
cellular respiration conversion of food energy into cell energy
golgi body s- stack of flattened membrane disks( like pancakes!!!)f- prepares materials to leave the cell by surrounding them w/a membrane vesicle
Rough endoplasmic reticulum(Rough ER) s- covered w/ ribosomes; network of membrane channelsf- transports material throughout the cell
nuclear envelope/membrane s-double membranef- surrounds the nucleus for protection
ribosomes s- little dots on outside of rough ERf- makes protiens
cell membrane s- composed of a phospholipid bilayerf- controls what materials enter or leave the cell
smoothe endoplasmic reticulum (smooth ER) s- network of membrane channels(hallways)f- thransports mostly lipids & other materials throughout the cell
lysosomes s- membrane vesicles that contain digestive enzymesf- braks down borken or worn down organelles into thier building blocks so they can be recycled
vacuole s- small membrane sacks filled w/waterf- water storage
chloroplasts S- inner & outer membranes, grana(spincorrect?), thylakoids, and lamelle
cell wall s- made of cellulose, surrounds palnt cellsf- provides, shape, support, and protection to the cell
eukaryotic cells** -not an organelle cells that contain a nucleus and membrand bound(enclosed) organelleseg. these kingdoms have eukaryotic cell- plant, animal, fungi, and protista
prokaryotic cells* cells that lack a nucleus and lack membrane bound organelles

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
