Potential Energy Vocab
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Elastic potential energy | Elastic potential energy is Potential energy stored as a result of deformation of an elastic object, such as the stretching of a spring. |
Electrical potential energy | A measure of the work required by an electric field to move electric charges. OR The voltage per unit of charge. |
Gravitational potential energy | energy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field. |
Magnetic Potential energy | the form of energy related not only to the distance between magnetic materials, but also to the orientation, or alignment, of those materials within the field. |
Electrical Current | An electric current is a flow of electric charge. In electric circuits this charge is often carried by moving electrons in a wire. It can also be carried by ions in an electrolyte, or by both ions and electrons such as in a plasma. |
Conductor | a material or device that conducts or transmits heat, electricity, or sound, especially when regarded in terms of its capacity to do this |
Chemical Potential Energy | The energy that is stored in atomic bonds and is absorbed or released is called chemical potential energy. |
