Light and Sound Chapter 3
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Electromagnetic Wave | A combination of Electric and Magnetic fields that move perpendicular(snake like)(Dolphin like motion |
| electric field | Surround every charged object- it pulls oppositly charged objects and repels like charged objects (static-baloons stuck to hair) |
| magnetic field | surrounds every magnet-Positive and Negitive (a parer clip pulls towards a magnet) |
| radiation | a transfer of energy as electromaagnetic wave |
| Electromagnetic spectrum | all frequencies of wave lengths of electromagnetic radiation |
| radio waves | waves that cover a wide range of wave in the EM spectrum (radio and TV broadcast radio waves) |
| visible waves | a narrow range of wavelenghts and frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum that contain all of the colors that you can see |
| Microwave | is a shorter wavelength with higher frequencies (Microwave ovens) (Cell phones) |
| Visible spectrum | the range of all colors of light you can see |
| ultraviolet light | an electromagnetic wave produced by the sun (a sun burn) |
| transmission | a passing of light or other forms of energy through matter (seeing something out a window) |
| transparent | decribles matter that allows light to pass through with little interference (a plastic baggie) |
| translucent | decribes matter that transmits light but that does not transmit an image (wax paper) |
| opaque | decribes a objrct that is not transparent of translucent (foil) you can't see throught it |
| melanin | the pigment that gives your skin color |
| cholorophill | the pigment that gives plants a green color |
