The EYE

Parts and Functions related to the eye

TermDefinition
cornea transparent front surface of the eye that protects it from dust and acts as a lens
iris ring of muscle that contracts and expands to adjust for light entering the eye; gives eye its color
pupil a hole in our eye that looks black; covered by the cornea; dim light it's larger or in bright light it's smaller
retina tissue at the back of the eye with the rods and cones that are sensitive to light and changes it to electrical signals
optic nerve sends the light as electrical signals to the brain
lens transparent objects with at least one curved surface
aqueous humor fluid in the front of the eye for protection
vitreous humor transparent jelly of salts and proteins
choroid coat black coat on back of eye to control reflection of light
cones receives color tones
rods receives gray tones of color
sclera white part of the eye
convex lens curved out lens that bends the image in the eye making it upside-down
