Cells

TermDefinition
Vacuole Storage unit in cells that hold water. Large in plants
Cell Membrain Cell Membrane is the outside covering of a cell that is flexible but still provides support. It determines what goes in and out of the cell such as water, ions, oxygen, CO2 and nutrients.
Nucleus Control center of the cell, houses DNA, controls cell growth and makes ribosomes
Mitochondria Mitochondria - "powerhouse" of the cell. Produces energy by breaking down glucose
Ribosome Site of protein synthesis (makes protein)
Chloroplast Captures radiant energy and converts it to chemical energy(C6H12O6). Has Chlorophyll - green pigment that absorbs light.
Cell Wall Gives strength, structure and rigidity to the plant through Turgor Pressure. In plants it is made of cellulose. Animal cells do not have a cell wall
Cytoplasm Gelatiaous,semitransparent fluid that fills cells
Golgi Body Packages cell products for transport (like ups)
