The Metric System A standard system of measurement used by scientests around the world
Meter The base unit used for measuring length. You use a meter stick to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "m"
Liter The base unit used for measuring volume. the abbreviation for this unit is "L"
Gram The base unit used for measuring mass. You use a Triple Beam Balance to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "g"
Centimeter A unit used for measuring length. You use a ruler to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "cm"
Millimeter The smallest unit used for measuring length. You use a ruler to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "mm"
Milliliter The smallest unit used for measuring volume. You use beakers and graduated cylinders to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "mL"
Meniscus The curved surface of a liquid. You always measure volume by reading the bottom of this.
Degrees Celsius The unit used to measure temperature. You use a thermometer to measure this unit, and the abbreviation is "ºC"
