| Term | Definition |

| Star | a fixed luminous point in the night sky that is a large, remote incandescent body like the sun. |
| Apparent Magnitude | the magnitude of a celestial object as it is actually measured from the earth. |
| Luminosity | luminous quality. |
| Absolute Magnitude | the magnitude (brightness) of a celestial object as it would be seen at a standard distance of 10 parsecs. |
| Temperature | A temperature is a numerical measure of hot or cold. |
| Main-sequence Stars | in astronomy the main sequence is a continuous and distinctive band of stars that appears on plots of stellar color versus brightness. |
| Astronomical-unit (Au) | a unit of measurement equal to 149.6 million kilometers, the mean distance from the center of the earth to the center of the sun. |
