Stars

TermDefinition
Star a fixed luminous point in the night sky that is a large, remote incandescent body like the sun.
Apparent Magnitude the magnitude of a celestial object as it is actually measured from the earth.
Luminosity luminous quality.
Absolute Magnitude the magnitude (brightness) of a celestial object as it would be seen at a standard distance of 10 parsecs.
Temperature A temperature is a numerical measure of hot or cold.
Main-sequence Stars in astronomy the main sequence is a continuous and distinctive band of stars that appears on plots of stellar color versus brightness.
Astronomical-unit (Au) a unit of measurement equal to 149.6 million kilometers, the mean distance from the center of the earth to the center of the sun.
