Describe the difference between pure substances(elements and compounds) mixtures
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Pure substances | a sample of matter, either a single element or a single compound, that has a definite chemical and physical properties |
Compound | a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds |
Molecule | the smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substance |
Chemical formula | a combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance |
Subscript | a small number written to the right and slightly below a chemical symbol to tell the number of atoms of that element in the substance |
Mixture | a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined |
