Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| State of matter | the physical forms of matter which include solid, liquid, and gas |
| Solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| Liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
| Gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape |
| Melting Point | temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid |
| Vaporization | process in which a liquid changes to gas |
| Boiling Point | temperature a which a liquid vaporizes and changes to a gas |
| Condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| Freezing Point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
| Sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
| Phase-change diagram | drawing that shows the relationships among temperature and changes of state |
| Plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
