Physical Geography of Russia

Ural Mountains Mountain range that divides European Russia from Asian Russia. Old mtns rich in iron ore, and fossil fuels
Caucasus Mountains located in southwestern Russia. rugged mtns lie between the Black and Caspian sea.
Mount Elbrus highest mountain in the Caucasus 18,510ft Russia's highest mountain.
Central Siberian Plateau rolling plateau with elevations from 1,600ft to 2,300ft.There are swiftly flowing rivers that havecarved out canyons
Kamchatka Peninsula far eastern Russia, there are more than 100 volcanoes, 23 of which are active
West Siberian Plain is low lands that are very poorly drained, with many swamps and marshes.
The Caspian Sea The largest inland body of water in the world. It is actually a salt water lake.
Lake Baikal lies in southern Siberia. The lake is over 1 mile deep. It is the third largest lake in Asia,the deepest lake in the world.Contains over 20% of the earth's total supply of freshwater.
Volga River fourth longest river in European Russia. Connects Moscow to the Caspian Sea
Volga-Don Canal canals that link Moscow to the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

Ob River flows north through Siberia emptying into the Arctic Ocean
The Amur River forms a border between China and Russia, drains eastward, influenced by summer monsoon winds from the southeast, the river valley is warmer than the rest of Siberia. It is the main food producing area
Black Earth Belt 250 million acres of fertile land stretches from Ukraine to southwestern Siberia
