Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| State of matter | the physical forms of matter which include solid, liquid, and gas |
| Solid | the state of matter in which the volume ans shape of a substance are fixed |
| Liquid | the state matter that has a definite volume but not definite shape |
| Gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape |
| Melting point | the change of state in which a solid becomes a liquid by adding heat |
| Vaporization | in which a liquid changes to a gas |
| Boiling point | the conversion of a liquid to a vapor when the vapor pressure of the liquid equals the atomspheric pressure |
| Condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| Freezing point | temperature at which a liquid turns to a gas |
| Sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
| Phase-change diagram | drawing that shows the relationship among temperature and changes of state |
| Plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperature are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bond |
