APES Biomes

The main biomes from around the world

QuestionAnswer
Deserts Hot and dry with little precipitation. Has succulent plants that hold moisture in.
Arctic Tundra Extremely cold and little participation. Plants have thick wax layers and live close to the ground
Taiga Long cold winters and mild summers; dry. Needle bearing plants, they slow heat loss and moisture loss. Needles stay on all year
Temperate Deciduous Forests Even precipitation with long warm summers. Broad leaf trees that survive by staying dormant over the Winter
Temperate Grassland Seasonal extremes of hot and cold. Steady rainfall of about 10 inches.
Tropical Rainforests Very Hot and moist
Alpine Tundra Above tree growth limit but below snow caps. More sunlight than the arctic and no permafrost.
Savanna Hot all year. Ranges from very dry to very wet
Chaparral Mediterranean climate with long, dry and hot summers and mild winters.
