ecological relationship questions

QuestionAnswer
1 Tracy is studying for her science test on Monday. She wants to know what an example of population would sound like. what would be an example of population? a flock of birds are flying south for the winter. a school of fish hide to get away from the swimming their way. or, the female lions are going out hunting, and they bring back four antelope
2) A cruise ship stops on the island for a break. The sweet bananas that grow there and eaten by monkeys that are found on the island, but people are taking interest in eating them too. Is this a representation of competition? why or why not? yes. because competition is when two organisms (the humans and monkeys)compete for one food source (the bananas).and they are also competing for space on the island.
3) our community park is close to a busy town road. the park is home to a large population of squirrels. many times a week squirrels run in the street and get hit by cars. what is this a example of? explain. It is a example of limiting factors. squrrierls getting hit by cars limit the population growth.
4) in a rain forest, there are a large number of animals . a ship brings animals taken from a rain forest in Brazil and place them in this rain forest. many animals begin to die , is this carrying capacity ? how or how not? it is carrying capacity.Because the rain forest is already over populated, when more animals arrive there is less of a food source to go around therefor animals starve.Carrying capacity is the number of individuals of one species an ecosystem can support.
5) what are the three types of symbiosis? explain them commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. commensalism is a relationship when one species benefits in some way and the other is not helped or hurt.Mutualism is when both species benefit.Parasitism is when one organism benefits and the other is harmed
6) a insect eats the leafs of a plant and they dont grow back. what type of symbiosis is this? explain it is parasitism. because the insect is benefiting by harming the plant.
7) If all energy comes from the sun,and plants use that energy, and we use the energy from plants and the animals that get energy from those plants that get energy from the sun. what would become of humans if there were no plants? explain. the human race would not be able to exists. because humans would have no source of energy, because there source of energy has no source of energy.
8) what is a consumer that eats a consumer called?why do they eat other consumers a consumer that eats a consumer is called a secondary consumer.they eat other consumers for energy.
9)what is a omnivores source of energy? omnivores source of energy is producers and consumers. they eat both plants and animals.
10) is a omnivore a consumer or producer? a omnivore is a consumer. a omnivore is a consumer because consumers cannot make or provide energy for themselves they get it from producers of other consumers or some times both.
11) an example of a predator would be a shark or a lion. what would be a good example of prey ? Give a example of something the prey hunted by a example of a prey would be a fish. fish could be preyed upon by bigger fish or humans.
12)a vulture is eating away at a dead carcass in the middle of a desert. then bacteria eats away at the rest. in this situation who is the scavenger and who is the decomposer? explain. the scavenger is the vulture because scavengers eat dead animals or plants. the decomposer is the bacteria because once the scavenger is done decomposer eat the left overs of the carcass
13) in a part of a food web, there is a bear,a fox a squirrel, a rabbit , which of these would collapse that part of the food web. remove the fox and squirrels and rabbits eaten by the fox will over populate. remove the rabbit then the fox has less of a energy source. remove the bear and the fox will over populate and rabbits and squirrels will decrease in numbers.
14) if a type of rabbit over populates because its main predator is eliminated for the food web then what is the effect? when the rabbit over populates it might benefit some animals because the supply of food source for that species increases. sadly the food source of the rabbit decreases an if that food source supplies other animals then they will be affected to.
15) a lion eats a meerkat. what type of consumer is the lion? this is a third order consumer. it has eaten a consumer that has already ate a consumer.
