Biology- Bones and Muscles Chapter 7 Section 5 -Finished

QuestionAnswer
voluntary muscles because skeletal muscles are generally under conscious control they are known as these
involuntary muscles these are smooth muscle and cardiac muscle are not under completely conscious, voluntary control
skeletal muscles over 600 muscles make up a large part of you chest, abdomen, neck, face, arms, and legs and their primary function is to move the parts of the skeleton
muscle fibers muscles that are composed of individual cells
striated these contraction filaments inside skeletal muscles cells are arranged in rows that give skeletal muscle tissues a striped or striated appearance when viewed under a microscope
another name for skeletal muscles striated muscle
what type of muscle has these movements: slow, powerful, and prolonged contractions smooth muscles
sternocleidomastoid theses chief muscles which are responsible for moving the head are these two muscle which connect the temporal bones of the skull w/ the sternum and clavicles
temporalis and masseter muscles are located on each side of the head; both sets of these muscles connect the mandible to the cranium and function to close the jaw, as when you bite a piece of food
trapezius the most important muscles in your shoulder movement are these. you actually have two of theses muscles which are located in your back on either side of your spine
intercostal muscles these muscles that are between the ribs are much smaller than most chest muscles but very important because they help you breath
pectoralis muscle these are some of the most important muscles, the largest of the chest muscles
deltoid they form the curves of your shoulders, lift the upper arms away from the body, such as when you raise your hands side to side
latissimus dorsi muscles connect each humerus to the lumbar region of the spine and they are responsible for drawing your arms to the rear, as when you pull on a rope of paddle a canoe
biceps brachii your biceps, they are located on the front of each upper arm, the biceps muscles allow you to bend your forearm
tricepts branchii your triceps, its the opposite job, that of extending or straightening the arms, and they are located on the backs of your arms. Several smaller muscles mostly located in the forearm allow you to twist your forearm in order to rotate your wrist.
rectus abdominus muscles which extend from the bottom of you sternum to the front of the pelvic girdle and you use these muscles whenever you sit up from a reclining position
external oblique a muscle that connects the ribs to the pelvis but extends more to the side than do the rectus abdominus muscles
erector spinae these are some of the most important muscles which extend vertically along the spinal column from the upper back to the pelvis
gluteus maximus the largest and strongest muscle in your whole body, which pulls your upper legs downward, away from the body and towards the rear
quadriceps femoris is a group of four muscles, that are located in the front of each thigh, and they are all connected to the tibia by the patellar tendon (the tendon that contains the kneecap)
hamstrings are a group of three muscles in the back of each thigh that work together to bend the leg at the knee
sartorius muscles that extend diagonally downward from the front of the pelvic bone (near the hip) and passes around the sides of the thigh, eventually connecting to the tibia
gastrocnemius the largest muscle in the calf, which forms the bulge on the upper back part of your calf; the main job of the gastrocnemius is to extend the foot downward by pulling up on the heel via the Achilles' tendon
skeletal muscles are designed to do what??? they designed to contract and relax very quickly,
What are three types of muscle tissue smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscles
how are smooth muscles much different than striated muscles striated muscles are designed to move quickly and powerfully and smooth muscles are specialized for relatively slow, powerful, and prolonged contractions
which type of these muscles in voluntary: smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscles skeletal muscles
explain how God's creative design for your hands to make them strong and dexterous we use our hands everyday, and they an do amazing things. they can work fast or they can work slow and meticulously. and they all have to work in a synchronized order. yet God protects them everyday from breaking or losing their strength
