| Hardness | A measure of how easily a mineral can be scratched. |
| Luster | The way light reflects off of a mineral. |
| Specific Gravity | The ratio of a minerals weight compared to water. |
| Streak | The color of a mineral in powdered form. |
| Cleavage | Minerals that break with smooth flat surfaces Example: Mica. |
| Fracture | Minerals that break with jagged, rough, and uneven surfaces. |
| Gems | Or gemstones are highly prized minerals for their beauty and because they are rare. |
| Ore | A useful substance that can be mined at a profit. |
