food chain a model of how energy is passed from organisim to organism in a community.
arrows on a food chain show the direction of energy transfer.
1st link on a food chain producer
2nd link on a food chain herbivor or omnivore. this is the primary consumer - the first consumer in the food chain
3rd link on a food chain carnivore or omnivore - the second consumer in the chain
4th link carnivore or omnivore - this is the tertiary consumer - the 3rd consumer in the chain
food web a model that showws all the possible feeding relationships among organisms in a community
a series of overlapping chains are food webs
energy pyramid a diagram that shows the amount of energy available at each feeding level in an ecosystem
