Scientific Method, metric measurements, Lab Safety, IV,DV, controls and constant

TermDefinition
Variable something that changes (or varies) during the course of the experiment
Contant something that doesn't change and is kept the same by the experimenter
Independent Variable the factor that the scientist changes deliberately during an experiment (It is what I change)
Dependent variable the factor that changes depending on the independent variable
Control Group the reference point where your independent variable is set to zero or is absent (whether or not there is an effect)
Mass the amount of matter in an object (grams) (triple beam balance/digital balance)
Volume the amount of space an object takes up (liter) (graduated cylinder)
Distance the amount of space between two points (meter) (Metric ruler/meter stick)
Time The amount of space between two occurrences (seconds) (stopwatch/clock)
Temperature A measure of how hot or cold something is/ the measure of the average energy of the particals in an object (degrees Celsius) (thermometer)
