| Term | Definition |

| Variable | something that changes (or varies) during the course of the experiment |
| Contant | something that doesn't change and is kept the same by the experimenter |
| Independent Variable | the factor that the scientist changes deliberately during an experiment (It is what I change) |
| Dependent variable | the factor that changes depending on the independent variable |
| Control Group | the reference point where your independent variable is set to zero or is absent (whether or not there is an effect) |
| Mass | the amount of matter in an object (grams) (triple beam balance/digital balance) |
| Volume | the amount of space an object takes up (liter) (graduated cylinder) |
| Distance | the amount of space between two points (meter) (Metric ruler/meter stick) |
| Time | The amount of space between two occurrences (seconds) (stopwatch/clock) |
| Temperature | A measure of how hot or cold something is/ the measure of the average energy of the particals in an object (degrees Celsius) (thermometer) |
