| oceanography | the study of Earth's oceans |
| environmental science | The study of the interactions of organisms and their surroundings. |
| geosphere | the area from the surface of earth down to the center |
| atmosphere | the blanket of gases that surround our planet. |
| hydrosphere | All of the water on Earth, including the water in the atmosphere |
| biosphere | All living organisms on Earth as well as the environments in which they live. |
| Scientific Methods | series of porblem-solving procedures that can help scientists conduct experiments. |
| hypothesis | a testable explanation of a situation that can be supported or disporoved by careful procedures. |
| independent variable | factor that is changed by the experimenter |
| dependent variable | factor that is affected by changes in the independent variable |
| control | used in an experiment to show that the result of an experiment are a result of the condition being tested. |
| SI units | a modern version of the metric system |
| Scientific notation | A number that is expressed as a value between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10 |
| Scientific model | an idea picture, a system of mathematical expression that represents the concept being explained. |
| Scientific Theory | an explanation based on many observations during repeated in investigations. |
| scientific law | A scientific law is a principle that describes the behavior of a natural phenomenon |
