Rocks and Minerals

TermDefinition
Igneous Rock It was the first rock on earth and is known as the "Parent Rock". It is also a rock that can form underground(intrusive) or above ground(extrusive)
Sedimentary Rock It is a rock formed through weathering, this is when wind and water break down the Earth into smaller pieces called sediment.When sediment is deposited it is compacted and pressed together to create layers or strata.
Metamorphic Rock It was once an igneous or sedimentary rock. They were changed by heat and pressure.
Rock Cycle Process that changes one rock into another
Naturally Ocurring Must occur NATURALLY. Not man-made. Must be found on Earths crust
Inorganic Cannot come from something that is alive or has ever been.
Solid Has to have a definite volume and/or shape.
Crystal Structure Particles must line up in a patter that repeats over and over again.
Define Chemical Composition Always contains certain elements in the same proportion.
Ore An economically valuable substance mined from Earth
