| Observation | Gathering data using the five senses |
| Data | Information gathered from observations |
| Qualitative Data | Data involving descriptions or characteristics |
| Quantitative Data | Data expressed as numbers by counting or measuring |
| Inference | Logical interpretation based on prior knowledge |
| Theory | Well tested explanation |
| Constants | Variables that stay the same in all groups |
