The Atmosphere

TermDefinition
Atmosphere The layer of gases that surround Earth.
Ozone A form of oxygen with three oxygen atoms in each molecule.
Water Vapor Water in the form of a gas.
Density Mass divided by volume.
Barometer An instrument used to measure air pressure.
Troposphere The layer of the atmosphere in which weather occurs.
Mesosphere The layer of the atmosphere that protects us from meteoroids.
Ionosphere The layer of the atmosphere that reflects radio waves.
Stratosphere The layer of the atmosphere between the troposphere and the mesosphere.
Photochemical Smog Air pollution that comes from the interaction of pollutants and sunlight.
Weather The condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a particular place and time.
Pressure Force per unit area.
Pollutants Harmful particles and gases in the air.
