Forms of Energy

energy the ability to do work (what makes things happen)
potential energy the energy that something has because of where it is located
gravitational energy the form of potential energy that is the energy stored in an object as a result of its verticle position or height
chemical energy the form of potential energy that holds a particular matter together
kinetic energy the energy that moving objects have
mechanical energy the form of kinetic energy that is energy moving things
thermal energy the form of kinetic energy that flows from one system or state to another resulting in a difference of temperature
electrical energy the form of kinetic energy in which an electric current flows from one place to another
light energy the form of kinetic energy that is energy traveling in straight lines called rays that fan outwards from the source of the light
sound energy the form of kinetic energy that is energy produced by vibrations or waves
fossil fuels include coal, oil, and natural gas; they formed from the remains of dead plants and animals
heat energy that moves from hot objects to cooler objects
pitch how high or low a sound is
echo a repetition of sound producted by the reflection of sound waves from a wall, mountain, or other obstructing surface
reflect to bounce off objects
