| Phenazopyridine (Pyridium, Urogesic) | Nonnarcotic analgesic | Anesthetic on mucosa of urinary tract | Assess decrease in urinary symptoms. Urine may turn red-orange. Report yellowing of sclera. |
| Flavoxate (Urispas) | Spasmolytic | Relieves nocturia, incontinence, dysuria | Assess decrease of urinary symptoms. |
| Finasteride (Proscar) | Androgen hormone inhibitor | Prevents benign prostatic hyperplasia | Monitor urinary output. May cause impotence. Pregnant women should avoid handling crushed pills. |
| Terazosin hydrochloride (Hytrin) | Antihypertensive and benign prostatic hyperplasia agent | In benign prostatic hyperplasia, causes relaxation of smooth muscle and improves urine flow | Assess for hypotension. Assess voiding pattern |
