| Evaporation | the process of converting a liquid to a gas. |
| Sublimation | the conversion of a solid directly to a gas without passing through the liquid state. |
| Basal Slip | when meltwater acts as a lubricant to help the glaciers side along its path. |
| Plastic Flow | deformation of a material that remains rigid under stress. |
| Crevasse | a deep crack in the brittle surface of a glacier. |
| Fault | a break in the lithosphere along which movement has occurred. |

| Aneroid Barometer | an instrument for measuring air pressure that consists of evacuated metals chambers very sensitive. |
| Cyclone | a low-pressure center characterized by a counter-clockwise flow of air in the Northern Hemisphere. |
| Anticyclone | a high pressure center characterized by a clockwise flow of air in the Northern Hemisphere. |
| Slump | the downward slipping of a mass of rock or unconsolidated material moving as a unit along a curved surface. |
| Creep | the slow downhill movement of soil and regolith. |
| Storm Surge | the abnormal rise of the sea along a shore as a result of strong winds. |
| Tropical Storm | a tropical cyclone with maximum winds between 61 and 69 km/hr. |
| Intrusive Igneous Rock | are formed from magma cooling below the Earths ,they will be coarse-grained,they take longer to cool, so their crystals will be larger. |
| Extrusive Igneous Rock | are formed by lava above the surface of the earth, they will be fine-grained, as their crystals cool quickly above ground |
| Suspension | a mixture if small particles dispersed in a liquid. |
| Solution | a liquid mixture in which the minor component is distribute |
| Pedalfer | composed of aluminum and iron oxides. Subdivision of the zonal soil order comprising of a large group of soils. |
| Pedocal | Subdivision of the zonal soil order.Low soil organic matter. |
| Focus | Point at which first movement occurs during an earthquake. |
| Epicenter | The point an Earth's surface directly above the focus. |
| Abrasion | the grinding and scraping of a rock surface by the friction and impact of rock particle. |
| Plucking | process by which bedrock are lifted out of place by glaciers. |
| Atomic Number | the number of protons in the neucleus of an atom. |
| Mass Number | the number of neutrons and protons in the nucleus of an atom. |
| El Nino | name given to the periodic warming of the ocean that occyrs in the central and eastern Pacific. |
| Monsoon | seasonal reversal of wind direction. |
| Anemometer | an instrument used to determine wind speed. |
| Barometer | an instrument that measures atmosphere pressure. |
| Cirrus | thin, delicate, ice-crystal clouds often appearing as veil-like patches or thin. |
| Nimbostratus | are dark, low level clouds often accompanied as light to moderately falling precipitation. |
| Horn | a pyramid-like peak formed by glacial action i three or more cirques surrounding a mountain summit. |
| Cirque | an amphitheater-shaped basin at the head of a glacialiated valley produced by frost wedging and plucking. |
| Moraine | gradually formed accumulation of unconsolidated glacial debris. |
| Drumlin | a streamlined asymmetrical hill composed of glacial till. |
| Transported soils | soils that form on unconsolidated deposits. |
| Residual Soil | soil developed directly from the weathering of bedrock below. |
| Contact Metamorphism | changes in rock caused by the heat from a nearby magama body. |
| Regional Metamorphism | associated with large-scale mountain builiding processes. |
| Conduction | the transfer of heat through matter by molecular actiivity. |
| Convection | the transfer of heat by the movement of a mass or substance, only in fluids. |
| Felsic | the group of igneous rocks composed primarily of feldpsar and quartz. |
| Mafic | Igneous rock with low silica content and high iron-magnesium content. |
