| aliphatic | compounds that are not aromatic |
| Antiaromatic | has 4n electrons |
| toluene | benzene with methyl group attached |
| benzene | basically a cyclohexene |
| phenol | benzene with OH attached |
| aniline | benzene with amine group attached |
| anisole | benzene with H3CO attached |
| halogenation | Br replaces an H |
| Sulfonation | sulfuric acid and sulfide trioxide (SO3) and you get HSO3 replacing H |
| Nitration | Sulfuric acid and nitric acid and you get NO2 replacing H |
| Reduction aka hydrogenation | adding H2;must use high temp and weird metal like Rh |
