atom The smallest particle of an element.
observation process of using one or more of the 5 senses to gather information about the world
chemical change A change in matter that produces new substances.
specific heat a measurement of a material's ability to absorb and store heat energy
inference a decision you make based on your observations
compound A substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a set ratio.
density The measure of how much mass of a substance is contained in a given volume.
independent variable (manipulated) what is changed in an experiment, what is tested
element A substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by chemical or physical means.
dependent variable (responding) what is measured in an experiment; the data
energy The ability to do work or cause change.
graph Is a diagram that shows how two variables are related on a graph, the horizontal line X axis (right to left is the manipulated or independent variable)And Y axis vertical line (up and down responding or dependent variable)
mass A measure of how much matter is in an object.
matter Anything that has mass and occupies space.
mixture Two or more substances that are mixed together but not chemically combined.
molecule A particle made of two or more atoms bonded together.
