| irregular galaxy | galaxy with no definite shape |
| Milky Way Galaxy | a galaxy where the sun is; this is where we live |
| core | in the core of the sun, nuclear reactions release immese amounts of energy temperatures can soar up to 15 million degrees Celsius |
| atmosphere | the energy produce in the core moves outward through the layers of the sun |
| orbit | curved path of one object around another objet in space |
| asteroids | large chunks of rock that orbit the sun |
| meteoroid | piece of rock or metal that orbits the sun |
| direct rays | light rays that hit the earth straight on |
| indirect rays | light rays that do not hit the Earth straight on |
| sunspot | a dark region of cool matter on the surface of the sun. They don't stay there forever. |
| solar flare | a huge explosion of gas and particles |
| solar wind | particles that flow from the Sun into space |
| aurora | coloured lights in the sky produced when a solar wind comes into contact with the Earth's atmosphere |
