How do we know something is alive? -Reproduction, energy processing, exchange and interact with environment, growth, and evolution
What are the levels of life? Molecule/Atom->Organelles->Cells->Tissue->Organs and Organ System->Organisms->Populations->Communities->Ecosystems->Biosphere
What is the main theme of Biology? Evolution
What does Evolution explain? It explains the differences and similarities b/w all living things.
What is Science? It's a process. 1) Ask Questions 2) Gathering Data 3) Drawing Conclusions
What is the value of science? It helps you explain and better understand your world and develop critical thinking
What are the two main ways of dong science? Discovery Science and Hypothesis based science
Discovery Science? Gathering Lots of Data to draw conclusions ex. If several humans have fingers than all humans have fingers
Hypothesis Based Science? Make and test a hypothesis using deductive reasoning (general statements to draw specific conclusions. ex. if all humans have fingers than Natali has fingers.
What are the steps in the scientific process? 1) Observations 2) Ask a Question 3) Form a hypothesis 4) Make Predictions 5) Test your hypothesis 6) Gather and analyze date 7) Draw Conclusions
What two ways are there to test your hypothesis? 1) Experimental 2) Observational (Correlational- two things that are related to each other)
What are the limitations of Science? Limited to explaining the physical/natural world
What is the goal of science? To explain how the world works
What is the goal of Technology? To apply that knowledge to solve a problem or produce a product
What is a theory? A hypothesis that has been thoroughly tested many times in many ways. As sure as scientists get
What is junk Science? Science whose conclusions can't be trusted b/c of lack of control, poor experimentation...etc
What is Scientific Controversy? Trying to figure out specifics but not throwing out the entire idea
