| Air mass | a large body of air that has properties similar to the part of Earth's surface over which it develops |
| Front | a boundary between two air masses of different density, moisture, or temperature |
| Tornado | a violently rotating column of air in contact with the ground |
| Hurricane | a large, swirling, low-pressure system that forms over oceans |
| Blizzard | a winter storm that's winds are 56km/h, temperature is low, visibility is less than 400 m in falling or blowing snow, and if these conditions last 3 hours or more |
| Meteorologist | a person who studies the weather |
| Station Model | shows the weather conditions at a specific location on Earth's surface |
| Isotherm | a line that connects points of equal temperature (iso=same, therm= temperature |
| Isobar | a line drawn to connect points of equal atmospheric pressure |
| Cold Front | occurs when colder air advances toward warm air |
| Warm Front | forms when lighter,warmer air advances over heavier, colder air |
| Occluded Front | involves three air masses of different temperatures—colder air, cool air, and warm air |
| Stationary Front | occurs when a boundary between air masses stop advancing, may remain in the same place for several days |
