The solar system

TermDefinition
Solar system The sun and all objects that revolve around it.
Moon A ball of rock that revolves around the sun.
Moon phase The apparent shapes that moon appears to have.
Lunar eclipse When the moon passes through the Earth's shadow.
Solar eclipse When the moon casts it's shadow on the earth.
Tides The regular rise and fall in the level of ocean water that take place twice a day.
Asteroids Rock fragments of various shapes and sizes that revolve around the sun.
Comet A loose mass of rock, ice, dust, and gases that moves through space as a unit.
Meteoroids A fragment of rock that travels through space.
Meteor A rock fragment traveling through space that enters Earth's atmosphere and burns up, producing a streak of light.
Meteorite A meteoroid that reaches the Earth's surface.
