| Troposphere | the lowest region of the atmosphere |
| Ionosphere | the layer of the earth's atmosphere that contains a high concentration of ions and free electrons and is able to reflect radio waves |
| Ozone Layer | a layer in the earth's stratosphere at an altitude of about 6.2 miles (10 km) containing a high concentration of ozone. in the upper atmosphere that prevents dangerous radiation from the Sun from reaching the surface of the Earth. |
| Ultraviolet Radiation | one form of energy coming from the sun. |
| Chlorofluorocarbon | any of a class of compounds of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine, typically gases used in refrigerants and aerosol propellants. They are harmful to the ozone layer in the earth's atmosphere. |
| Stratosphere | the layer of the earth's atmosphere above the troposphere, extending to about 32 miles (50 km) above the earth's surface |
| Air Mass | a body of air with horizontally uniform temperature, humidity, and pressure. |
| Front | a boundary separating two masses of air of different densities, and is the principal cause of meteorological phenomena. |
| Tornado | a mobile, destructive vortex of violently rotating winds having the appearance of a funnel-shaped cloud and advancing beneath a large storm system. |
| Hurricane | a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean. |
| Blizzard | a severe snowstorm with high winds and low visibility. |
| Jet streams | Narrow belts of strong winds. |
