| behavior | the way an organism reacts to an internal or external(ex: the environment)change |
| stimulus | a signal that carries info. that an organism responds to |
| response | the reaction to a stimulus |
| innate behavior | instinct or inborn behavior; appears fully functional first time it's performed |
| learning | changes in behavior as a result of experience |
| habituation | learning process by which an animal decreases or stops its response to a repetitive stimulus |
| classical conditioning | when an animal learns to make a mental connection between a stimuli and a reward or punishment |
| operant conditioning | an animal learns to behave a certain way through repeated practice to earn a reward or avoid punishment(trail-and-error learning) |

| imprinting | learning based on early experience; once it's done, that behavior cannot be changed |
| migration | periodic movement of animals from one place to another |
| courtship | when animals send out stimuli-sounds, visual displays, or chemicals- in order to attract the opposite sex |
| circadian rhythm | behavioral cycle that occurs on a daily pattern |
| territory | a specific area occupied/protected by an animal or group of animals |
| aggression | threatening behavior an animal uses to gain control over another |
| communication | passing info. from one organism to another |
| language | system of communication that uses symbols, sounds, or gestures |
