| consumers | organisms that cannot make their own food |
| decomposers | organisms that get their energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms |
| herbivores | eat only plants |
| carnivores | eat only meat |
| omnivores | eat plants and meat |
| scavengers | eat only dead animals |
| food chain | a series of steps showing how energy moves from biotic factors to another |
| food web | a diagram of many food chains |
| symbiosis | a long-term relationship between two organisms |
| parasites | they live inside or outside another organism taking nutrients from that organism |
