| niche | the role an organism has in an ecosystem |
| carrying capacity | the amount of organisms a habitat can support |
| predator | an animal that hunts and eats another animal |
| prey | any animal that is hunted by predators |
| producer | make their own food for energy |
| consumer | organisms that cannot make their own food |
| decomposer | get their energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms |
| herbivore | an organism that only eats plants |
| omnivore | an organism that eats plants and animals |
| carnivore | an organism that only eats animals |
| scavenger | an organism that only eats already dead animals |
| food chain | a series of steps showing how energy moves from one biotic factor to another |
| food web | a diagram of many different food chains |
| symbiosis | a long term relationship between organisms |
| parasite | steals the nutrients from organisms |
