Blastula Fluid-filled ball of cells formed by mitotic cell division of the embryo
Gastrula two-cell layer sac with an opening at one end that forms from the blastula during embryonic development
Deuterostome Coelomate animal whose anus develops from the opening in the gastrula
Protostome Coelomate animal whose mouth develops from the opening in the gastrula
Closed Circulatory System Blood is confined to the vessels as it moves through the body
Open Circulatory System blood is pumped out of vessels into open spaces surrounding body organs
Crop Sac in which food and soil are stored until they pass to the earthworm's gizzard
Gizzard muscular sac in birds that contains hard particles that help grind soil and food before they pass into the intestines
Nephridium structure through which most molluks eleiminate metabolic wates from cellular processes
Book Lung In spiders and some other arthropods, the respiratory structure with highly folded walls whose membranes look like book pages
Spiracle opening in the arthropod body through which air enters and waste gases leave
Tracheal Tube in most terrestrial arthropods, one of a system of tubes that branch into smaller tubules and carry oxygen throughout the body

Water Vascular System system of fluid-filled , closed tubes that allow echinoderms to control movement and get food
Nephron filtering unit of the kidney
Operculum movable, protective flap that covers a fish's gills and helps to pump water that enter the mouth and moves over the gills
Scale small, flat, platelike structure near the surface of the skin of most fishes; can be ctenoid, cycloid, placoid, or ganoid
Spawning process by which male and female fishes release their gametes near each other in the water
Swim Bladder gas-filled internal space in bony fishes that allows them to regulate their buoyancy
