Thermal Energy

conduction transfers heat by a direct contact; occurs when the particles in a material collide with neighboring particles.

radiation occurs when energy is transferred by electromagnetic waves
specific heat substance is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of substance by 1 degrees Celsius
temperature is measure of average value of the kinetic energy in the molecules in random motion
thermal energy the sum of the kinetic and potential energy of all molecules in an object
thermal pollution the increasing temperature of a body of water caused by adding warmer water
