| internal combustion engine | the fuel that burns in a combustion chamber inside the engine. |
| radiation | occurs when energy is transferred by electromagnetic waves |
| specific heat | substance is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of substance by 1 degrees Celsius |
| temperature | is measure of average value of the kinetic energy in the molecules in random motion |
| thermal energy | the sum of the kinetic and potential energy of all molecules in an object |
| thermal pollution | the increasing temperature of a body of water caused by adding warmer water |
