| Epidermis- | top layers only 1 or 2 cells thick, dead skin |
| Dermis- | "true skin". ex; smooth muscle, nerves, blood vessels, fat cells, oil glands, sweat glands, pores, hair follicles. |

| Mouth- | food is broken down into small bits and mixed w/ saliva- made of water, mucus, and enzymes. ★carbs are broken down, complex carbs are broken down into simple sugars (glucose) |

| Peristalsis | series of muscle contractions that pushes food down toward the stomach |
