What is a Producer? An organism that captures energy and stores it in food as chemical energy.
What is a Consumer? Organisms that get their energy by eating, or consuming, other organisms.
What is a Decomposer? Organisms that break down dead plant and animal matter into simpler compounds.
What is a Food Chain? Describes the feeding relationship between a producer and a single chain of consumers in an ecosystem.
What is a Food Web? A model of the feeding relationships between many different consumers and producers in an ecosystem.
What is anEnergy Pyramid? A model that shows the amiount of energy available at each feeding level of an ecosystem.
How does most energy enter ecosystems? Photosynthesis
What is a Primary? A word that means "first in order"
What is a Secondary? A word that means "second in order"
What is a Tertiary? A word that means "third in order"
What is the name of organisms that release the last bit of energy from once-living matter? Decomposers
These are classified by their position in a feeding relationship. Consumers
This is like a spiderweb, with many overlapping and interconnected food chains. a food Web
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web? A food web shows that the feeding relationships can go in several directions. A food web shows how one consumer can play several roles in an ecosystem.
