Waves

7th Grade Vocab for Waves

WordDefinition
Wave A disturbance that moves through matter or space
Traverse Wave Particles in matter move up and down at right angles in the direction the wave travels
Compressional Wave Particles in matter move back and forth along the same direction in which the wave travels
Wavelength The distance from a crest to a crest
Frequency The number of crests or troughs that pass you each second
Law of Reflection The angle that the wave hits at a reflective surface, it'll back bounce to the same
Refraction The change in direction of a wave when it changes speed as it travels from one material
Diffraction When waves bend and change direction and instead go around obstacles
