| wave | a disturbance that moves through matter or space |
| transverse wave | causes particles in matter to move back and forth at right angles |
| compressional wave | causes particles to move back and forth along the same direction |
| wavelength | the distance between one point on the wave and the same point moving in the same speed |
| frequency | the number of wavelengths that pass by a point each second |
| law of reflection | when waves reflect off surface |
| rarefaction | the change in direction of a wave when it changes speed as it travels one material to an other |
| diffraction | the bending around the waves around an object |
| opaque | not abel to see through; solid |
| translucent | allows some light to pass though |
| transparent | clear; allows light to pass through |
| reflect | to throw back the light or bounce off |
| absorb | to take the light in or suck the light up |
| transmit | pass through something |
| loudness | it is the magnitude of sound |
| pitch | the quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations producing it |
