| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| waves | a disturbance that moves through matter or space |
| transverse waves | causes particles in matter to move back and fourth at right angles |
| compressional waves | causes particles matter to move back and fourth along the same direction |
| wave lengths | the distance between one point on a wave and the nearest point moving with the same speed and direction |
| frequency | is the numbers of wave length that pass by a point each second |
| law of reflection | the angle that the incoming wave makes with the normal equals the angle that the out going wave with the normal |
| refraction | the change in direction of a wave when it changes speed as it travels from one material to another |
| diffraction | the bending of waves around an object |
| Opaque | materials that let no light through |
| translucent | materials that let some light go through |
| transparent | lets all light through |
| reflect | when light bounces off an object |
| absorbs | when light is taken into an object |
| transmits | when light goes through an object |
| loudness | volume, magnitude of sound |
| pitch | how it sounds/quality(high, medium, or low) |
| echo location | the location of where the sound reflects |
| echo | a sound caused by sound waves bouncing of a surface back to a listener |
| dropper effect | the increase or decrease of sound, light, or other wave as a person moves closer of further from the other person |
