Evolution

TermDefinition
geological time scale system of chronological measurement used by earth scientists like a geologist to describe the timing and relationship b/w events that occurred throughout Earth's history.
radiometric dating a method used to dating specimens like from (archaeological specimen) by determining the proportions radioactive isotopes present in a sample.
half-life the time taken for the radioactivity of a specified isotope to fall to half its original value.
continental drift the gradual movement of the continents across the earth's surface through geological time.
mass extinction an extinction event is widespread and has a rapid decrease in the amount of life on earth.
adaption the action or process of adapting or being adapted.
descent with modification Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations.
natural selection the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
population all the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country.
variation a change or difference in condition, amount, or level, typically with certain limits.
artificial selection is the intentional reproduction of individuals in a population that have desirable traits.
