| continental shelf | area of seabed that around a large land mass which is relatively shallow compared to the open ocean |
| continental slope | the slope between the outer edge of the continental shelf and the deep ocean floor |
| continental rise | sediment that builds up at the end of the continental slope |
| abyssal plain | flat area on the ocean floor |
| mid ocean ridges | ridge in the ocean signifying magma and seafloor spreading |
| rift valley | a break in the Earth's surface that makes a deep trench |
| sea mounts | a submarine mountain |
| ocean trenches | a lond, narrow, deep, depression in the ocean floor |
